Bunk'Art - Tirana

Located in a military zone of Tirana, this "city under the city" covers 2685 square meters and consists of 106 rooms disposed on 5 levels. This incredible structure was ordered by the Albanian dictator Enver Hoxha after his visit to North Korea in 1964. In the following years he will lead the country into a complete totalitarian regime, and will completely isolate the population.

Accompanied by a haunting alarm, this exceptional bunker takes us back to the time of the Albanian Popular Republic and surprises us not only because of its construction, but also because of the comfort it offers, the luxuriance that the regime offered to themselves at a time when the population was suffering from food rationing and misery.

Albanian Bunkers are ubiquitous in the country, with an estimated average of 5.7 bunkers per square kilometer. They were built from the 1960s to the 1980s.In 1983, a total of 173,371 concrete bunkers were built in the entire country.
