Saint-Merry is a 16th century gothic church. It is located in the center of Paris and can be seen on the way to Beaubourg, Marais. It is very recurrent to see cultural activities like concerts, exhibitions or any other events. I had the pleasure to play several times in this magical place
" We know almost nothing about the story of Saint Merry (Merry, Merri, Médéric or Medericus), apart from the date of his death which is mentioned in the martyrology written by Usuard in the middle of the 9th century:
IV Kalend.sept (29 août) Parisiis, depositio…Mederici presbyteri… Medericus nunquam fuit episcopus, sed primum monachus, dein abbas alterius ex duobus monasteriis quae tunc temporis Augustoduni erant ; tandem Parisiis, causa orationis venerat, vitam morte commutavit, die quarto kalendarum septembrium.
Saint Merry did exist, but we do not know the year or even the century of his death: 9th? VIII? 700, as the Dictionary of Saints indicates?
Saint Merry left no written work. From the martyrology, one could also presume that Medericus is the founding saint of a monastery that would have existed at this place, but that did not last long, since it has not left any trace in history. " Paroisse Saint-Merry
